Chulalongkorn
University is Thailand's oldest and one of the country's most prestigious
universities. It was officially established on March 26, 1917 by King
Vajiravudh (Rama VI) and named after his father King Chulalongkorn (Rama V),
who laid the foundations for modern education in Thailand. At first,
Chulalongkorn University had four faculties (Medicine, Engineering, Public
administration, and Arts and Sciences) and had an enrollment of 380 students.
The first commencement ceremony took place on October 25, 1930 when King
Prajadhipok (Rama VII) conferred degrees to the first and second classes of medical
students.

University Strategies 2012 – 2016 focus on different aspects of development and
improvement with the objective of raising the university to a level of
excellence that will qualify it as a “World Class National University”. Today, Chulalongkorn University is composed of 19 faculties, 3 colleges, 10 institutes, and 3 schools with a total enrollment of more than 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
