Temple University attracts some of the most diverse, driven and motivated minds from across
the nation and around the world. These students and faculty fuel its momentum in academics,
athletics, research and the arts.
Powering Temple’s ascent are innovative approaches in admissions and affordability; a campus
transformation; creative and research opportunities; rigorous academic programs;
groundbreaking work in science, research and technology; and an indelible bond with the city of
Philadelphia.
Temple students’ collegiate experience is a special mix of vibrant campus life and the cultural
and social perks of the university's location in the nation's fifth largest city—complemented by
300+ student organizations and 19 Division-I athletics programs. Temple’s main campus itself
continues to undergo a massive transformation, including new state-of-the-art residence halls,
education and science research buildings and fitness and athletics facilities.
The university's 17 schools and colleges, eight campuses, 540 degree programs, and more than
39,000 students create one of the nation's most comprehensive and creative learning
communities. Nearly 3,300 international students hailing from 129 countries, as well as Temple
campuses in Rome and Tokyo, give students a truly global perspective.
Temple is known for its innovation in student-loan debt reduction and college affordability.
Academic merit scholarships for freshmen range from $3,000 to full tuition. In fall 2016, 94
percent of incoming freshmen signed up for Temple’s Fly in 4 program, which helps students
limit their debt by ensuring they graduate in four years. As a part of Fly in 4, Temple awards
four-year grants to 500 eligible students to reduce their need to work for pay.
Students applying for admission can now choose to do so via the Temple Option. Through the
Temple Option, students submit self-reflective, short-answers to a few specially designed,
open-ended questions instead of their SAT or ACT scores.
Temple ranks in the top tier of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education
placing it among the top four percent of all four-year institutions in the nation. The university’s
research expenditures have reached a record $257 million, putting in the top 100 in the nation
according to the National Science Foundation.
