Vanderbilt University is located on a beautiful 330-acre campus located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. With ten schools and colleges, four of which enroll undergraduates, Vanderbilt offers undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences, engineering, music, education, and human development, as well as a full range of graduate and professional degrees. The combination of excellent
academic rigor, a vibrant campus life, and an urban location attracts exceptionally talented students from around the world, consistently earning the university a top-20 ranking from U.S. News & World Report. Vanderbilt’s 6,900 undergraduate students and 5,900 graduate students from 92 countries are immersed in multidisciplinary research and teaching that are at the heart of the Vanderbilt community. More than 50 percent of undergraduates participate in academic research, and with a 7:1 student-faculty ratio, Vanderbilt affords easy access to faculty across academic disciplines.
Students apply for admission to one of four undergraduate schools: the College of Arts and Science, the School of Engineering, Peabody College of Education and Human Development, or the Blair School of Music. In all four schools, honors programs and opportunities for research, independent study, and internships are available. Thirty-four percent of undergraduate students pursue double majors within or across the four undergraduate schools, and 56 percent add an optional minor.
The College of Arts and Science offers a wide spectrum of courses in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, and has majors and minors in approximately 60 departments and interdisciplinary areas. Students in A&S achieve both breadth and depth in their education by satisfying a set of liberal arts and science courses through AXLE (Achieving eXcellence in Liberal Education), and by completing at least one major.
